According to the International Virtual Assistants Association (IVAA)  “Virtual assistants are independent contractors who (from a remote location, usually their home or office) support multiple clients in a variety of industries by providing administrative, creative, and technical services.”

A virtual assistant is a temporary or long term contractor and they cater for their own statutory obligations in essence they are consultants.

Therefore a virtual assistant (VA) is not an employee but a business owner who provides administrative and other professional services to other business owners. The services can be provided remotely or physically depending on the location .

As a business owner it is not easy juggling all the business activities one is required to undertake. This is where a VA comes in and can assist in : scheduling your calendar, making travel arrangements, creating web content and updating websites , event organization amongst other duties.
